Adam Hawkey

Associate Professor, School of Sport, Health and Social Sciences, Solent University
Adam Hawkey is Associate Professor and Head of Sport Science and Performance at Solent University. He is also an Honorary Lecturer within the School of Medicine at the University of Dundee and the Deputy Chair of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). In addition to working with English Premier League and Championship football teams he has also advised GB Gymnastics and GB Judo and had professional roles at major sporting events, including Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and Highland Games and the Ryder Cup. Adam has also worked with military personnel (including the SAS and Parachute Regiment), Antarctic Explorers, Extreme Endurance Athletes, and astronauts from NASA, ESA and other agencies; as a member of NASA's Biomedical Task Group at the Kennedy Space Center he supported human spaceflight missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
Uniquely, as a specialist in both sport science and human spaceflight (a Fellow of both BASES and the British Interplanetary Society [BIS]), Adam regularly appears as a professional commentator/expert on radio, TV and digital media; working with the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, SKY, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, and WebMD. He has provided expert statements on Video Assisted Refereeing (VAR) for the FIFA2018 World Cup and the Premier League/FA Cup, expert comment on sports technology and equipment and also been a scientific expert for projects and animations on space physiology and sport science.
