Professor Stephen MacMahon AO is one of the founders of The George Institute for Global Health, a leading independent global medical research institute established and headquartered in Sydney, with additional major centres in China, India and the UK and an international network of experts and collaborators.
The George Institute, UK was established in 2013 through a partnership with the University of Oxford. Since then, the research focus has expanded to include urgent issues such as urban health, multimorbidity and sex inequalities in health care and outcomes. At the University of Oxford, Stephen is a James Martin Fellow and Professor of Medicine, an appointment he also holds at UNSW Sydney.
The Institute's mission is to improve the health of millions of people worldwide, particularly those living in disadvantaged circumstances, by challenging the status quo and using innovative approaches to prevent and treat non-communicable diseases and injury.
Stephen is an international authority on the causes, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and has a special interest is the management of chronic and complex conditions in resource-poor settings, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
