Yana Wengel

Lecturer Work, Emplyoment and Organisation, University of Strathclyde
Yana is a lecturer at the Department Work Employment & Organisation department at the University of Strathclyde Business School.
She takes a critical approach to tourism studies and is particularly interested in communication aspects within the tourism phenomena. Her research interests revolve around mountain tourism, volunteer tourism, non-profit tourism and creative methodologies.
Her PhD research examined the social construction of the host-guest experiences in World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) programme. She has an interest in creative qualitative tools for data collection and stakeholder engagement.
Since 2013 she is a certified LEGO Serious Play facilitator and Ketso practitioner. She has research & consulting experience, and in her previous roles, she was a postdoctoral researcher in Dark Tourism project and a pro-bono visiting academic with a Luxembourg Aid and Development Agency in Myanmar.
She worked as a lecturer at the Mandalar Degree College in Mandalay and advised the MYA/001 project team on developing the HR capacity in the hospitality and tourism sector in Myanmar.
Furthermore, she engaged in community work in New Zealand, in particular focusing on issues of the refugees and their integration into a new society and culture as well as working with youth in a Scout's organisation.
