black-ish season 7 will be back this fall after ABC reversed its decision to hold it off until the midseason.
The move was probably prompted by the backlash that ABC received after releasing its 2020 fall schedule that showed black-ish was not on the list.
Though no premiere date is given, black-ish is given a schedule of Wednesdays, 9:30 p.m. eastern time, after The Conners.
Call Your Mother, which was originally put on the timeslot, has now been pushed back to the midseason.
Karey Burke, the president of ABC president, explained the reason why they switched shows in a statement.
She said that with the recent events, referring to the George Floyd death and its aftermath, it is important to continue what black-ish has always been doing through the years, that is putting the spotlight on current events and honoring the voice of the Blacks through the Johnson family.
Burke further aded that by putting back black-ish on air the soonest possible, the viewers will be empowered to also raise their voices.
black-ish executive producer Kenya Barris also spoke about the issue. He thanked Burke for seeing the importance of black-ish and why it should immediately be put back on air.
He also applauded their decision to make the switch and added that he speaks for the entire black-ish production in saying that they are humbled, even if only in a small part, to be telling the stories of the black community and that they are eager to get back to it the soonest possible.
With California just having allowed productions to continue in films and TV shows last June 12, we may be looking at probably an October or November premiere date.
