‘Wolverine 3’ released the first photographs of lead actor Hugh Jackman as an old man during filming in New Orleans. These prompted more speculations of an “Old Man Logan” adaptation for the upcoming sequel. Meanwhile, new villains may be introduced in the third film.
The first behind-the-scenes photographs posted on Just Jared revealed Jackman looking quite old as he returns to portray main protagonist Logan a.k.a. Wolverine. The images, featuring Jackman in a suit sporting gray hair and beard, were taken from the filming set in New Orleans. These fueled speculations that the upcoming sequel is set to follow the “Old Man Logan” story arc told in the original Marvel comic books.
According to Comic Book Resources, the “Old Man Logan” plot line was previously hinted by writer Mark Millar but no official confirmation has been made as of the present. However, it was revealed that the third installment in the standalone Wolverine series will be set in the future but will feature an old “Western” feel. It will also be R-rated.
There have also been a number of rumors surrounding potential ‘Wolverine 3’ villains. According to Nerdist, a source close to production revealed that Logan will be battling against the Reavers, a team of criminal cyborgs dedicated to taking down the X-Men – particularly Wolverine. The Reavers operate under the leadership of Donald Pierce.
‘Wolverine 3’ is an upcoming science-fiction and action film directed by James Mangold and produced by Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker, Lauren Shuler Donner with Stan Lee executive producing. It is the sequel to 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and 2013’s ‘The Wolverine’, which proved successful at the box office.
The first standalone film earned $373.1 million worldwide against a $150 million production budget while ‘The Wolverine’ earned $414.8 million worldwide against a smaller $120 million budget. Both films contributed to the box office success of the ‘X-Men’ franchise, which took in a total of $1.78 billion.
‘Wolverine 3’ is slated to premiere in theaters on March 3, 2017. It stars Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Elise Neal, and Eriq La Salle.
