The production of “Westworld” season 3 will begin in a few weeks and, as a result, more details about the series are getting revealed. However, not every information will delight the viewers such as the report that the third series installment will have fewer episodes.
As first reported by Revenge of the Fans, “Westworld” season 3 will purportedly have a shorter run compared to the first two installments. Seasons 1 and 2 both had 10 episodes but the series is now rumored to return with only eight episodes.
The report did not mention the reason behind the episode count downgrade but one very likely explanation is that HBO simply ordered a shorter “Westworld” season 3. ROTF’s insider added that all eight episodes will be an hour long. It was not clear if that duration includes slots for adverts or it meant an hour full of the show’s content.
Fans are still advised to take this report with a pinch of salt and consider it a “Westworld” season 3 rumor for now. The publication, however, stated they are confident the source of this information is credible.
Some fans might think that having fewer episodes would expedite the production of “Westworld” season 3 and, ultimately, lead to an earlier release date. However, the series is one of the biggest productions HBO have in terms of its cast, props, and filming location requirements. For example, “Game of Thrones” season 8 (to premiere on Sunday, April 14) will only have a total of six episodes but is taking almost a two-year gap from the preceding season.
Series co-creator Jonathan Nolan also hinted they are hoping for the production to get even bigger as they move on to “Westworld” season 3. “With a show of this scope and scale, we’re not interested in doing the compromised version. We want the show to get bigger and bigger and more ambitious and this takes time. We want to take all the time we need to get it right,” Nolan previously told Entertainment Weekly.
The filming of “Westworld” season 3 will reportedly start on March 25 and will likely end sometime in September. Fans can check an earlier EconoTimes report to see why the show will probably return in 2020.
