Wendy's unveiled its newest food item that will expand its breakfast offerings. The fast-food chain revealed on Monday, Jan. 22, that it is adding burritos to its menu and will launch them in its 4,500 store locations in select territories in the United States.
Wendy's said that its new Breakfast Burrito is like a Baconator in tortilla wrap because it has the same amount of bacon to serve a hearty meal in the morning. This would be the brand's bet to beat Taco Bell. According to TODAY.com, Wendy's described its latest menu addition as something filled with "all the best parts of Wendy's breakfast menu."
Wendy's Breakfast Burrito
The home of Baconator said that because the newly-introduced Breakfast Burrito is a hefty creation, it is not for customers with a small appetite. To understand how loaded it is, the wrap has two fresh eggs with seasoned breakfast potatoes and two slices of American cheese.
Bacon is the main ingredient in Wendy's Breakfast Burrito, and there are six slices of oven-baked Applewood-smoked bacon strips in the wrap. This is the same amount of bacon that the restaurant's popular Baconator has.
The breakfast burrito is completed with a drizzle of Swiss cheese sauce and two Cholula Original Hot Sauce packets. The new menu is the chain's first foray into bacon breakfast offerings other than sandwiches.
Jumping Into the Burrito Trend
With Wendy's launching its burrito menu, it appears to be going after its fast-food rivals. Taco Bell has its line of breakfast burritos while McDonald's also has its Sausage Burrito - and it seems that Wendy's will take these two fast-food giants through its version of the tortilla wrap menu.
"With our new Breakfast Burrito, we've carefully balanced taste and convenience to create a portable masterpiece," The Wendy's Company's global vice president of culinary innovation, John Li, said in a press release. "Our newest breakfast innovation serves up all the best parts of Wendy's breakfast rolled up into one delicious burrito."
The restaurant's US chief marketing officer, Lindsay Radkoski, added, "We knew it was time to roll out a breakfast burrito option, starting in select markets. This latest morning menu innovation is exactly what our consumers are craving. The new Breakfast Burrito is a portable, hearty breakfast filled with quality ingredients you can always get at Wendy's."
