“Warcraft 3: Reforged” is set to reinvigorate the community’s interest in the popular RTS game, improving various aspects of its graphics and applying small changes to its gameplay. The announcement of the remaster has essentially polarized the game’s following.
Some are vexed that Blizzard is putting all these efforts into “Warcraft 3: Reforged” rather than creating “Warcraft 4.” This annoyance isn’t surprising given that “Warcraft 3” came out in 2002. More than a decade later and nothing substantial has been added to the game, rendering its gameplay stale and repetitive.
For casual players, at least. Pros, on the other hand, are still active in honing their skills and having fun overall. It’s this hardcore fans that are optimistic that “Warcraft 3: Reforged” may be opening up new doors for the game moving forward.
The most exciting thing about the remaster is that it will add the game on Battle.net and will be providing a ladder system for those who are itching to climb up the ranks. With the matchmaking easier than before, “Warcraft 3: Reforged” is set to attract more players into its fold, which, in turn, may open up possibilities of more tournaments in the future.
Unfortunately, there’s still no news about how this ladder system will look like. In fact, Blizzard is maintaining their silence about “Warcraft 3: Reforged” and when fans can expect the remaster to drop. Even the beta version of the game has yet to be announced. What we know so far is that it will come out sometime in 2019, with the beta version coming out before the game’s official launching.
Hopefully, the developers have been using all these time to polish “Warcraft 3: Reforged” and perhaps add a few heroes for each faction or a new unit for each race at the very least. If not for those two, then maybe a new hero tavern to spice things up.
As for what Blizzard hopes to gain from the remaster, profit appears to be the main reason for it. However, this could be the company’s way of measuring the game’s popularity to provide them with a basic understanding where this product stands. If “Warcraft 3: Reforged” provides a satisfying figure for upper management, perhaps this may open up the possibility of “Warcraft 4” being created. For now, however, this is simply a pipe-dream, and there’s no telling what Blizzard is planning for the beloved RTS title.
