Amazon and Google have unveiled a jointly developed multicloud networking service designed to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity for enterprise customers. The new solution aims to solve growing challenges in cloud interoperability, especially as organizations increasingly rely on multiple cloud providers to support high-performance applications and rapidly expanding AI workloads.
The collaboration between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud enables customers to establish private, high-speed links between both platforms within minutes—far quicker than the traditional process that can take weeks. By integrating AWS Interconnect–multicloud with Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect, the companies are offering a stronger, more seamless networking experience across cloud environments.
The announcement comes shortly after a major AWS outage on October 20, which took down thousands of websites and popular apps, including Snapchat and Reddit. According to analytics firm Parametrix, the disruption could cost U.S. companies between $500 million and $650 million—highlighting the critical need for resilient cloud infrastructure. This new service is positioned as a response to such vulnerabilities, offering businesses more robust connectivity to mitigate risks from single-cloud failures.
Executives from both cloud giants emphasized the significance of the partnership. Robert Kennedy, vice president of network services at AWS, described the effort as a major shift in multicloud connectivity. Rob Enns, vice president and general manager of cloud networking at Google Cloud, added that the joint solution is designed to simplify data and application movement across clouds.
Salesforce is already among the early adopters, demonstrating strong enterprise demand for improved multicloud performance. As companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft continue investing billions to support rising internet traffic and AI-driven computing needs, enhanced network reliability has become essential.
Amazon’s cloud division remains the market leader, generating $33 billion in third-quarter revenue—more than twice Google Cloud’s $15.16 billion—signaling the scale and competitive importance of innovations in cloud networking.
