Apple’s next event will be the Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC, and tech fans can expect it is where the tech giant will unveil the next updates to its operating systems. However, there have been some clues discovered recently that the company will discuss a new operating system, along with iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15.
Is Apple launching an OS for smart home devices?
It has been a while since Apple last introduced a new operating system. Even though the company released new devices and services in recent years, those products have often been integrated and supported by existing operating systems.
However, tech reporter Javier Lacort recently shared an Apple job listing where the company mentioned “homeOS.” Apple is looking to hire new software engineers “passionate about Music,” and their job would include working on the unannounced operating system.

The inclusion of homeOS does not seem like a mistake, though, as it was mentioned twice in the job listing alongside iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. It also appears that Apple’s homeOS would be initially focused on the integration of Apple Music on devices that will be supported by the homeOS.
The likelihood of Apple launching an Apple Music-focused operating system at the WWDC next week would be interesting, especially because the company is not expected to launch a new smart speaker or smart home device. If Apple were to announce the homeOS next week, it could be initially the official software used for the HomePod speakers. But it would not be surprising if Apple would end up launching more smart home devices in the future.
WWDC 2021: When and where to watch
Luckily, WWDC is just a few days away. Like last year, Apple is not holding any in-person events for the 5-day conference that will start with a keynote address on Monday, June 7, at 10 a.m. PDT.
Developers and tech fans around the world will be able to watch through Apple’s YouTube channel. They can click the “Set reminder” button to be notified once the event is about to start. This should be the time when Apple will announce new features for the iOS/iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS 12, tvOS 15, and the new homeOS.
