‘Vikings’ released a new trailer ahead of the widely anticipated San Diego Comic-Con International held at the San Diego Convention Center from July 21-24, 2016. It was speculated that the incoming second half of season 4 will find King Ragnar dying in a snake pit following his capture.
According to ET Canada, the latest trailer for the second half of season 4 has been released ahead of the upcoming Comic-Con to be held in San Diego, California. It featured the show’s fierce characters including Travis Fimmel’s King Ragnar Lothbrok of Kattegat. The incoming episodes will find him engaged in more battles and it was heavily speculated that his life may be in imminent danger.
It was reported that Ragnar is looking to his favorite son Ivan the Boneless to succeed him should he die from battle. In the preceding episodes, Ragnar was facing enemies from all sides. His return to Kattegat following his defeat in Paris was most unwelcome and he challenged his sons to kill him if they want to take over as the new ruler.
The series’ fourth season is divided into two parts. Part one premiered on February 2016 in History Channel. According to Den of Geek, part two’s return to the network is yet to be officially announced but it is expected to air sometime in the fall – specifically in September.
According to Movie News Guide, it was rumored that Ragnar’s sons may not be the ones to kill him but King Aelle of Northumbria himself. The series is inspired by real-life accounts of the real Ragnar Lothbrok and if his actual story is to be translated on the small screen, he may be captured and thrown into the snake pits.
Historical accounts of the 9th century hero of Norse history differed in details but there are two specific stories on how he met his death. One version suggested that Ragnar died because of a condition similar to diarrhea after the Paris battle.
Another version claimed that he died in the hands of enemies after being washed ashore on the coast of the Kingdom of Northumbria during his journey back to his homeland. King Aella of Northumbria and his troops managed to capture the Viking ruler and throw him into the snake pits where he met a most violent death. It remains unknown whether the series will follow this story arc for its next episodes.
‘Vikings’ is an action-adventure and historical-drama television series inspired by the legendary stories of Viking king Ragnar Lothbrok who was notorious for terrorizing England and France. It was created by Michael Hirst and first premiered on History on March 2013.
The show was renewed for a fourth season split into two parts last March 2015 and is set to return some time later this year.
