U.S. Election Series: Policy ideas of Donald Trump

As Donald Trump has become Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, with last two men Ted Cruz and John Kasich fell out this week, it’s time to look at Mr. Trump’s policy ideas to assess what may lie ahead if he becomes the President. However markets are not very good at pricing non-binary events such as presidential race, until the very last.

  • One of the key cornerstone of his policies has been immigrations. He is tough on the issue and raised controversies by his plans to build wall along Mexico border to prevent illegal immigration. It also includes another controversial stance to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country.

  • Mr. Trump has clearly said that he is against abortion.

  • Mr. Trump prefers people to have guns rather than banning guns but that to the right people.

  • Theme of Mr. Trump’s foreign policy has been America first stance, for which he said he will force NATO countries from paying more, bomb out the ISIS, permit use of tougher negotiating tactics such as water-boarding. It also includes destroys Iran’s terror network, exclude Saudi Arabia’s immunity given by America, since their petro dollars fuel terrorism. He is soft on Israel.

  • Mr. Trump supports taxing the super-rich 1% but reduce business and personal taxes.

  • He has pledged to bring back jobs from China, Mexico and Japan.

  • He also pledged to repeal Obamacare with cheaper, better alternatives.

  • Trump mentioned he would cut spending but has been vogue on the details.

  • Environment could be major setback under his government as he considers global warming a hoax.

  • Trump has come out as tough on national security.

So far, some of his ideas have come out as radical, some as popular, but to beat Clinton or Sanders he will have to work on the details and feasibility.
