U.S. President Donald Trump believes India will significantly lower tariffs on American goods, according to an interview with Breitbart News.
“I believe they’re going to probably be lowering those tariffs substantially, but on April 2, we will be charging them the same tariffs they charge us,” Trump stated. His remarks reflect ongoing trade tensions between the two nations, with the U.S. pushing for fairer trade policies.
India has historically imposed high tariffs on imported goods, including agricultural products, motorcycles, and medical devices. The U.S. has frequently raised concerns about these trade barriers, urging India to adopt a more balanced approach.
Trump’s comments suggest potential progress in trade negotiations, though no official confirmation has been made by Indian authorities. The former president’s stance on reciprocal tariffs highlights his broader trade policy, which emphasizes equal treatment for American exports.
As the global trade landscape shifts, the U.S.-India relationship remains a focal point. Whether India will indeed reduce tariffs remains to be seen, but Trump's statement signals a continued push for fair trade practices.
