U.S. President Donald Trump intensified his attacks on Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene over the weekend, dismissing her claims that his criticism has put her safety at risk. Greene, once one of Trump’s strongest allies, said his remarks sparked a surge of new threats against her, telling CNN that being labeled a “traitor” by the president was the most painful part of the dispute.
Trump doubled down just hours later, again referring to her as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Greene” and insisting he did not believe she was in any real danger. Speaking to reporters before departing his Mar-a-Lago resort for Washington, D.C., he added, “I don’t think anybody cares about her,” signaling how sharply the relationship has deteriorated.
Greene, a representative from Georgia known for her loyal backing of Trump, has recently clashed with the president on several issues. She said private security advisers warned her about potential threats, noting that past political attacks had already led to death threats. Greene attributes the current rift to her call for releasing full Justice Department records related to the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
While Greene was one of only four House Republicans to join Democrats in demanding a vote to release the Epstein files, Trump has dismissed the controversy as a partisan “hoax.” Despite that stance, he later posted on social media that House Republicans should vote to release the files, adding, “we have nothing to hide.”
The public fallout highlights a growing divide within Trump’s Republican base, raising questions about his influence over the party’s most hardline supporters. Trump escalated the feud on Friday, calling Greene “Wacky,” a “ranting lunatic,” and a “Lightweight Congresswoman,” while suggesting her constituents should consider backing a primary challenger in the next election.
Throughout the weekend, Trump also clashed with reporters questioning him about the Epstein records, at one point telling a female reporter, “quiet, quiet piggy,” underscoring his combative relationship with the media. The White House offered no comment on the dispute or Trump’s remarks.
