Over the years, the cold has become a common disease that can easily be treated with various remedies that are readily available. However, the main question is: What really works in beating the common cold?
According to Mayoclinic, the cold really has no cure, but the remedies are mostly to relieve the symptoms people experience when suffering from it. The common cold usually comes from the changes in season or changes in temperature, and it is also known to be contagious. Fortunately, there are a lot of remedies available, but not all of these remedies are said to work, nor are definitively defined to work due to conflicting opinions.
One of these remedies that are said to work is with the use of supplements. As told by Bulletproof, adding certain supplements helps in relieving the symptoms and get rid of the bad feeling. The first supplement is zinc, which can help shorten the time of a cold. However, the downside of taking zinc supplements is the possible decrease in the body’s natural Zinc supply, and it is advised to be taken with copper.
The second supplement is vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid. This particular vitamin is known for boosting the body’s immune system, but there are still some conflicting reports regarding taking vitamin c to relieve cold symptoms. While it will not prevent the cold from coming unless the person lacks this vitamin, it is also said to reduce symptoms.
The third supplement is glutathione, which boosts the efficacy of vitamin C. Glutathione also strengthens the body’s immune system and is an antioxidant. This is available either as a supplement or from a whey protein of very good quality.
Other supplements that are said to be helpful in relieving cold symptoms are turmeric, echinacea, and vitamin D.
All in all, even if cold symptoms are easily managed through various remedies, the time it takes to get better still relies on the person’s immune system. Some can simply drink a lot of fluids and vitamin c and get better or supplements may not be enough for others. Prevention is still key, and regular hand washing will, first and foremost, keep the germs at bay.
