George RR Matin’s “The Winds of Winter” keeps getting delayed, but finally, the author revealed it will finally be in his hand this year. “Games of Thrones” ended with eight seasons, and yet, GRRM’s sixth book in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” series has yet to be completed.

HBO drama overtook the book’s story

Everyone knows that “GoT” was based on Martin’s “ASOIAF” novel, so it means that HBO went ahead and wrote its own ending since the original story is taking a long time to finish. Many fans were disappointed with this, and Martin said that it was also frustrating for him because it was his story after all yet, the ending in the fantasy drama was different because he could not finish “The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring” on time.

“People know a conclusion but not the conclusion. The creators of the TV show had overtaken me, which I did not expect,” Esquire quoted him as saying when he was asked by a German newspaper about the ending of “ASOIAF.”

The advantage of “GoT” ending first and spoilers

George RR Martin confirmed that “Game of Thrones” was “not completely faithful” and dropped hints about what to expect in “The Winds of Winter” and the last book. He said that readers will see many characters who never appeared in the drama at all. Also, there will be characters who died in the drama but lived in the books.

Martin wrote on his blog that “The readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet.” He also confirmed that there will be unicorns too.

It can be recalled that fans were disappointed with how “GoT” ended because many characters died. Martin said that the advantage with the delay of “The Winds of Winter” is that he can rewrite the story and give it a better ending that will not be too devastating for the fans.

The due date Martin set for “TWOW” publishing

Although he did not say the date directly, Martin announced through his blog site that “The Winds of Winter” will be ready in late July or early August of this year. He said last year that the book will be in his hand when he attends the WorldCon in New Zealand.

This event, although canceled due to COVID-19, has been scheduled from July 19 to Aug. 2, so it means that he just made a promise that the much-awaited book will be around by that time. Most probably, George RR Martin will be able to keep his promise this time because he is focused on writing after going on self-isolation in the mountains.
