‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 8, titled “We Have History Together,” is set to follow Stefan after he becomes the devil’s servant. Meanwhile, it was speculated that this new turn of events may threaten his relationship with Caroline.
According to Comicbook Movie, the devil himself has two new loyal servants in the form of the Salvatore Brothers Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley). The preceding episode, titled "The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You," followed Stefan as he recalled his worst experiences and memories. Stefan eventually struck a new deal with Cade (Wole Parks) while Damon struggled against Sybil (Nathalie Kelley).
The recap for episode 7 posted on Entertainment Weekly revealed that Stefan was preparing to spend one last holiday with Caroline (Candice King). Alaric (Matthew Davis) and the girls joined in but Christmas dinner didn’t go as smoothly as planned since Damon and Sybil decided to pay an unexpected visit.
Damon asked for some alone time with his brother. Unbeknownst to Stefan, Damon had a deal with Cade to which Cade requested for a meeting with Stefan. Damon followed the devil’s orders and proceeded to kill Stefan.
During this time, Cade took Stefan back to the past – specifically in Monterey. He also reminded Stefan of the 1917 Christmas massacre to which the former fails to believe since he has no memory of it. It turns out that Seline altered his subconscious and wiped out the Christmas murder when she was tasked at collecting him for Cade but didn’t see evil in his mind.
Following the flashback experience, Stefan decided to strike a new deal with Cade, which meant that Ripper Stefan has returned. Perhaps this could spell trouble for Stefan and Caroline’s relationship in the next episodes.
Candice King, who plays Caroline on the series, addressed Caroline and Stefan’s potentially harrowing wedding planning now that Stefan has become the devil’s servant. She said, “Don't you hate wedding planning when that happens? No, at this point she's dealing with the fact that he has sacrificed himself and their relationship for a while to save her kids, and she's having to sacrifice being around her children so I think she's just more mourning the loss and the change of it all as opposed to really worrying about the wedding.”
When asked about the last episodes of the season, King replied, “It's all still coming together, so I don't want to jump into it too much because it's all building up to the series finale.”
She continued, “It's one thing when you're in the middle of the book to be like, "Oh, what's in the next couple of chapters?" But when it's the final chapter of the book, you're like, "Oh, you know what, I just don't want to say anything," because I know the writers are writing from a place with an ultimate purpose. So I'm a little wary.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 8, titled “We Have History Together,” is scheduled to air on The CW on January 13, 2017.
