Shooting for Netflix’s next Marvel Comics-based series, “The Punisher,” has reportedly been finished. Comicbook.com said the shooting for Jon Bernthal’s character featured on “Daredevil” started in October last year, but little news has come since production for the highly-anticipated spinoff has started.
However, CBR has obtained photos from the show’s wrap party, which is enough to excite fans and tide them over till the official trailer is released. In one photo captioned “and that's a wrap on "the punisher",” Bernthal is seen with a frown but doing a thumbs-up. Ben Barnes of the “Narnia” film series fame is also seen on another photo. Bernthal and Barnes will be joined by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman and Michael Nathanson in the series, which is targeted for a 2017 release. Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her “Daredevil” role as Karen Page to Bernthal’s Frank Page.
The development of “The Punisher” may have been eclipsed with Netflix’s other superhero series, “The Defenders,” which will also star Bernthal’s Frank Page, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Matt Murdock’s Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). However, one can’t help thinking if the eight-episode series will also feature at least some of the Defenders ahead of the superhero group’s series premiere in August. Slashfilm said “Jessica Jones” Season 2 has started announcing new cast additions to the show. Although the premiere date for “Jessica Jones” Season 2 has not been released, it only makes sense for Jessica Jones to appear in “The Punisher” to boost the show’s second installment following “The Defenders.”
On the other hand, Daredevil might also join the fray if it means drumming up interest for the superhero’s third installment. Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos did confirm a few months ago that Season 3 will debut sometime in 2018, potentially after “The Punisher,” “Jessica Jones,” and “The Defenders”’s premieres on the streaming service, so maybe a crossover is a likelihood at this point.
