“The Punisher” Season 2 is the long-awaited second season of the critically-acclaimed and fan favorite first outing of Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal). Following the cancellation of “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist,” fans have been on the edge of their seats for the hyper-violent show to be axed, as well. So far, nothing has been said about it, but it’s already a given that “The Punisher” Season 2 is going to be the last installment on Netflix.
Even now, many fans are still confused as to why Netflix has suddenly decided to go on a series massacre with all of these cancellations. The answer, unfortunately, has to do with the fact that the streaming company does not own the rights to any of these shows. This is why “The Punisher Season 2” is going to be the final run that Frank Castle will see on the platform.
For some context, it’s worth pointing out that Netflix is not reaping all of the rewards for all of its efforts in producing these shows. Disney and Marvel are getting a cut of the profit, and while the canceled franchises were money-makers, a portion of that money is going somewhere else. The same thing will happen with “The Punisher” Season 2.
While it can already be expected that the show is going to be a hit, it likely won’t make that much of a difference to Netflix. Compared to when it makes original shows such as “Narcos,” where all of the money goes to the company, “The Punisher” Season 2 will be a shared effort. The only reason why the second season is even happening is because the production for it is already done.
“The Punisher” Season 2 is expected to drop in the fall of 2019. The same goes for “Jessica Jones” season 3, which is currently under production.
