‘The Lost Boys’ is set for a television reboot and will be aired on The CW. The 1980s cult classic will be returning to the small screen with each season reportedly covering a decade. Season 1 may be set in 1967 in San Francisco, California.
According to Rolling Stone, Joel Schumacher’s iconic horror film released in 1987 is set to get the small screen treatment after The CW, famous for the vampire series ‘The Vampire Diaries’, won the bidding war for a television series remake.
Rob Thomas, creator of ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘iZombie’, is reportedly on board to work as writer and executive producer for the reboot. According to Metro, the new series will run for seven seasons with each season covering a decade. Season 1 is speculated to begin with the year 1967 in San Francisco.
In addition to covering a specific decade, each season will be populated by different villains and mortals as well as a unique storyline – with only the main cast of characters moving on to each decade. It is unknown whether original film cast members Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Corey Feldman, or Jami Gertz will be returning to reprise their roles for the reboot.
Schumacher’s film referenced the Lost Boys from J. M. Barrie’s children’s stories about Peter Pan and Neverland. It followed two brothers Michael and Sam who fought a gang of young vampires after moving to California with their divorced mother. It was produced by Harvey Bernard and distributed by Warner Bros.
The film was released on July 1987 to generally positive reviews from critics and earned $32.22 million at the domestic box office on a production budget of $8.5 million, according to The Numbers. It was followed by two direct-to-video sequels namely 2008’s ‘Lost Boys: The Tribe’ and 2010’s ‘Lost Boys: The Thirst’, which didn’t achieve the same critical and commercial success and their predecessor.
The upcoming television series set to be aired on The CW joins a roster of television series rebooted from films including FX’s ‘Fargo’, CBS’ ‘Limitless’, ABC’s ‘Uncle Buck’, Fox’s ‘Lethal Weapon’, and A&E’s ‘Bates Motel’.
‘The Lost Boys’ is an upcoming vampire and horror television series set to air on The CW. It is based on Joel Schumacher classic 1980s film of the same name.
