“The Flash” season 2 really pushed the boundaries when it comes to what can happen to a super hero and those he is close to, and it’s not over yet. Unlike its darker equivalent in “Arrow,” the series showcasing the scarlet speedster has always set itself apart thanks to its protagonist who has always remained a blazing ball of energy. Will Barry still retain his optimism after all that’s happened to him?
According to Comicbook.com who recently interviewed Grant Gustin who plays Barry Allen in the show, this may be so. Gustin says that knowing Barry, the ever-peppy superhero will be able to deal with his situation as he always has.
"I will be adamant!” Gustin said in the interview. “I don’t know what’s going to happen in season 3, how they’re going to write it, where they’re going to go, but Berlanti and Kreisberg and Geoff – I actually don’t know how closely Geoff’s involved anymore – but all those guys know The Flash better than anybody, and they know that he has to have the optimism."
Of course, fans will still need to see the season 2 finale to find out what will happen in the final confrontation between Zoom and The Flash. However, it’s inevitable that season 3 will be dealing with the aftermath of the battle, particularly regarding Barry’s emotional state.
To recap, Barry has had to endure betrayals, deaths, and a seemingly unbeatable enemy in the form of Zoom. The biggest event that will likely leave a lasting scar on the show’s protagonist though, is when his father was murdered by Zoom.
As for what can be expected in the season 2 finale, one of the photos released recently shows Joe chained up by the season’s main villain. Will Barry lose yet another father to his nemesis?
Watch the Season 2 finale of “The Flash” on May 24 on The CW to find out.
