‘The Crow’ reboot is scheduled to begin production on January 2017. Colin Hardy of ‘The Hallow’ is set to direct the film while Jason Momoa of ‘Game of Thrones’ fame will portray lead protagonist Eric Draven.
According to Den of Geek, the planned reboot of the 1994 neo-noir fantasy film directed by Alex Proyas is reportedly scheduled to begin production on January 2017. Momoa is in talks to take on the role of lead role of Eric Draven a.k.a. The Crow. Draven is the main protagonist of Proyas’ original film as well as the original 1989 comic book it was adapted from.
Momoa may have confirmed his role as he posted a photograph of himself and director Corin Hardy on Instagram with the hashtags #sealthedeal and #dreamjob. He and Hardy were all smiles as they shook phands and shared beers in a pub. The image was captioned, “The only way to officially seal the deal as men Is a pint of black beauty.”
The 37-year old actor is best known for his role as the fierce Dothraki leader Khal Drogo on HBO’s critically-acclaimed and widely popular fantasy television series ‘Game of Thrones’. He also worked on other television projects such as ‘Stargate Atlantis’ ‘Baywatch Hawaii’, and ‘The Red Road’.
He also worked on full-feature film such as 2011’s ‘Conan the Barbarian’, where he won the CinemaCon Award for Male Rising Star. Momoa was also chosen to portray the popular DC character Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman for the DC’s Extended Universe (DCEU) film. He is set to star in his own standalone film ‘Aquaman’ directed by James Wan and scheduled to premiere in 2018.
Production for the planned ‘The Crow’ reboot took on an on again-off again nature through the years. It was back in 2008 that news broke about a planned reboot but it never had the opportunity to take off. According to Screen Rant, countless reboots of the original film had then been attempted through the years with actors Jack Huston, Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, and Luke Evans attached to the role of Eric at certain points.
‘The Crow’ is a planned reboot of Proyas’ 1994 cult film of the same name adapted from the graphic novel by James O’Barr. It will be helmed by Corin Hardy who is best known for his work on the horror film ‘The Hallow’.
Proyas’ first film follows a metal musician who returns from the dead with a fiery vengeance. He goes on to hunt down the men who murdered him and his fiancée on the night before their wedding.
