‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10 may find two of the main characters, Penny and Leonard, leaving the series. Kaley Cuoco and John Galecki’s contracts with CBS are reportedly ending.
According to Australia Network News, season 10 may find Penny and Leonard making a final exit from the show. The two characters have been part of the main ensemble since the series premiered on CBS on September 2007. Penny and Leonard make up the five lead characters that includes Jim Parsons’ Sheldon Cooper, Simon Helberg’s Howard Wolowitz, and Kunal Nayyar’s Rajesh “Raj” Koothrappali.
Series regulars Kaley Cuoco and John Galecki, who play on-screen couple Penny and Leonard respectively, are speculated to sign out since their contracts with CBS will be completed by the end of the tenth season. However, there is still a possibility for contract extension should the network decide to push for more seasons for ‘The Big Bang Theory’.
Other cast members confirmed that they are willing to stay on the series should more seasons follow, according to Canindia. Executive producer Steven Molaro expressed his optimism by saying, “The writers are still so devoted and on top of it, the stories that come out are still so much fun to play – there’s no drudgery aspect to this.”
According to the Independent, Molaro revealed during an interview last year that season 10 could be the television series’ final run. He said, "I think so. I can't speak to the future or on behalf of the cast or where we'll be then but it's certainly possible that it could go past that… The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point." No official confirmation has been made as of the present.
‘The Big Bang Theory’ is an American sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. It follows the lives of five quirky characters living in Pasadena, California. Since its debut in CBS, it has received multiple accolades including several awards and nominations from the Primetime Emmy Awards. Parsons also won Emmy awards in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Sheldon.
Season 10 will premiere on CBS in the 2016-2017 television season.
