‘Supergirl’ released its official second season synopsis confirming the superhero team-up between Kara and her cousin Superman as they fight off new villains in National City. Meanwhile, Calista Flockhart is confirmed to return as Cat Grant for season 2.
The CW recently released the official synopsis for the incoming season of ‘Supergirl’ scheduled to premiere on October 10, 2016. The synopsis posted on Comicbook.com recapped the events of the preceding season while teasing new developments for the second.
It confirmed that Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers a.k.a. Supergirl will be joining forces with her cousin Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman to fight off brand new villains. Kara will also be leaving her job as assistant to media mogul Cat Grant of CatCo while she continues to work at the secret government agency Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO). Kara will continue to struggle with her double life as a “normal” citizen of National City and as a crime fighting superhero.
According to Moviepilot, Tyler Hoechlin will be joining the new cast as an adult version of the Man of Steel himself. It was reported that the 28-year old actor only signed on to two episodes as of the present.
Hoechlin is best known for his role as Derek Hale in MTV’s teen drama and horror television series ‘Teen Wolf’. He is also known for work on the family drama series ‘7th Heaven’ in the main role of Martin Brewer. He appeared in several full-feature films including Sam Mendes’ crime thriller film ‘Road to Perdition’, Daniel Myrick’s supernatural horror remake ‘Solstice’, and the Farrelly brothers’ comedy ‘Hall Pass’.
Other actors joining season 2’s roster include Ian Gomez as newsman Snapper Carr, Katie McGrath as Lex Luthor’s younger sister Lena, Lynda Carter as the President of the United States, and Floriana Lima as police officer Maggie Sawyer.
Calista Flockhart will also be returning to play Cat Grant in a reduced role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Flockhart was part of the main cast but her Cat will now be a recurring character as the series moves forward. It was reported her change in status was attributed to the show’s shift in production from Los Angeles to Vancouver to cut costs.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, "Supergirl wouldn't be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant… We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her onscreen."
Flockhart is best known for her work on successful television series including ‘Ally McBeal’ and ‘Brothers and Sisters’. She is also a Golden Globe Award winner and a three-time Emmy Award-nominated actress.
‘Supergirl’ is a superhero-drama television series that originally aired on CBS on October 2015. It is based on the DC comic book character of the same name created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The show was developed Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, and Andrew Kreisberg and produced by DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, and Berlanti Productions.
Season 2 is scheduled to debut on The CW on October 10, 2016.
