‘Supergirl’ season 2’s episode 8, entitled “Medusa”, will feature Kara enlisting Lena Luthor’s help to stop Lena’s mother Lilian from unleashing a deadly virus that kills aliens on Earth. Meanwhile, Alex decides to tell her mother about her sexuality when she comes to town to celebrate Thanksgiving.
The synopsis for “Medusa” posted on Cartermatt reads, “Eliza (guest star Helen Slater) comes to town to celebrate Thanksgiving with her daughters. Alex (Chyler Leigh) decides it’s time to come out to her mother; Kara (Melisa Benoist) is shocked when Eliza suggests Mon-El (Chris Wood) has feelings for her, and Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and James (Mehcad Brooks) consider telling Kara the truth about the Guardian.
Meanwhile, CADMUS unleashes a virus that instantly kills any alien in the vicinity so Kara enlists an unexpected ally – Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath). The epic superhero crossover kicks off tonight when Barry Allen (guest star Grant Gustin) and Cisco Ramon (guest star Carlos Valdes) seek Kara’s help with an alien invasion on their Earth.”
Kara will form an unlikely alliance with Lena Luthor, Lex’s sister and Lilian’s foster daughter, in attempts to stop Lilian from wreaking havoc in the incoming episode. Lilian was revealed to be the mastermind behind the shadowy organization CADMUS, a group dedicated to eliminating all aliens on Earth. In the preceding episode, entitled “The Darkest Place”, CADMUS managed to capture Supergirl and Mon-El, which allowed Lilian to take a sample of Supergirl’s blood.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lilian actress Brenda Strong revealed that Lena was previously unaware of her mother’s involvement with CADMUS. Strong said, “At this point, she doesn’t know anything at all. But come “Medusa,” she’s going to start finding out more about her mother’s nefarious mission and that will have an impact on their relationship.”
Strong explained, “[Project] Medusa plays very strongly in the next episode, which is episode 208, and it’s basically a virus. It’s one of those exclusive viruses that doesn’t touch anyone whose organic material is human. It only attacks anything that is alien, and it’s a big one. So, that poses imminent threat to the planet.”
The 56-year old actress also talked about the strain between Lilian and Lena as mother and daughter. On top of their strained relationship, Strong revealed that the two have opposing views when it comes to aliens. She said, “Obviously, Lena is very aligned with Supergirl and very much wants her as a friend and wants to change the way the Luthors are perceived in society. I think we’re working against different ends entirely, and it’s difficult.”
The incoming episode will also end with a scene that sets up the “Arrowverse” crossover event, entitled “Invasion!” This is expected to begin on ‘The Flash’ season 3’s episode 8, continues on to ‘Arrow’ season 5’s episode 8, and ends on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2’s episode 7.
‘Supergirl’ season 2’s episode 8, entitled “Medusa”, is scheduled to air on The CW on November 28, 2016. It was directed by Stefan Pleszczynski and written by Jessica Queller and Derek Simon. It will be followed by episode 9, entitled "Supergirl Lives", directed by Kevin Smith.
