‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Updates: New Video Addresses Barb’s Disappearance, Eleven’s Mischief at Supermarket in 80’s-style Fake News

‘Stranger Things’ released a new video ahead of season 2’s debut on Netflix. The 80’s-style fake news addressed Barb’s disappearance and Eleven’s mischief at the supermarket from season 1.

According to Gamespot, a new trailer for Netflix’s widely-popular science-fiction and horror web television series was recently dropped. It featured fake news delivered by fictional anchor Brenda Wood of news channel WIYZ of Hawkins, Indiana. Although it didn’t contain any new footage for season 2, it is still a fun promotional video to keep viewer hype while waiting for the incoming season’s premiere expected sometime in 2017.

Wood opened her “Minute by Minute” segment with news on Barbara "Barb" Holland’s (Shannon Purser) disappearance. She began, “Barbara Holland, a student at Hawkins High – known as “Barb” to her friends – was last seen at Steve Harrington’s home just a few days ago with a number of other Hawkins area teens.”

She continued, “We reached out to her closest friend Nancy Wheeler, sister of Mike Wheeler, best friend of missing boy Will Byers, for comment… but so far we’ve been unable to reach her.”

Wood went on to talk about descriptions of Barb, including how she was “loyal to a fault” to her friends and how she could “rock a pair of mom jeans.”

The faux newscaster concluded, “Barb was last seen with a pink blouse, green pants, blue puffer jacket, and an oversized pair of absolutely fantastic glasses.”

Purser appeared as Barb on season 1 but was killed off by the monster halfway through the season. The show’s storyline never addressed her death until the new promotional video. Since then, her character has become one of the viewers’ favorites.

During a previous interview with co-creator Matt Duffer, it was confirmed that Barb was really killed off despite theories stating otherwise. According to IGN, when asked if Barb will be alive and well for season 2, Duffer said, “I can’t see it happening… But Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it.”

He continued, “So part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”

Meanwhile, the new video also addressed Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) antics at the supermarket. It showed footage of Eleven stealing some of her favorite Eggo treats from the store’s fridge. Wood ended the video with, “If you know the identity or name of this young girl, please contact chief Jim Hopper at Hawkins Police Station.”

‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2017. The web television series was created by Matt and Ross Duffer. It first premiered on July 2016 to positive reviews from critics.
