Starbucks Japan Debuts Mera Meera Frappuccino, a Fiery Fusion of Spooky Flavors and Vibrant Hues
With Halloween fast approaching, Starbucks has brewed up a limited-edition Halloween Frappuccino that promises to whisk customers away to a fiery, magical celebration. Dubbed the Mera Meera Frappuccino, this seasonal beverage draws its name from "mera mera," a Japanese onomatopoeia for something flaring up or bursting into flames, with the elongated "meera" adding an extra spooky twist.
Visually striking, the Mera Meera Frappuccino features swirls of blueberry and raspberry powder that create enchanting blue-and-red hues, evoking the look of “mysteriously swaying flames.” The body of the drink is described as having a sweet, milky flavor, likened to the taste of condensed milk melted by magical flames. Adorning the whipped cream topping are bitter-baked chocolate chunks, which look like they’ve been roasted by the fire, adding depth to the sweet and sour berry sauce made with strawberries, raspberries, and cranberries.
Starbucks baristas carefully craft each Mera Meera Frappuccino, and every cup showcases unique patterns as if conjured by magic. This special edition beverage, available only from October 11 through October 31, is designed to cast a spell on anyone who tries it.
Starbucks Unveils Sinister Malassada Halloween Pastry with Jet-Black Cocoa Dough and Fiery Berry Filling
Adding to the festive indulgence is the Malassada Halloween Raspberry & Blueberry, a sinister take on the traditional Portuguese fried pastry. This version features a cocoa-flavored dough that gives the malassada a jet-black appearance. Inside, a rich raspberry sauce and blueberry cream ooze out as if from a mystical flame. Combining the sweet-and-sour berries with the cocoa dough creates a decadent treat with a soft, chewy texture that will tempt anyone seeking a taste of Halloween magic.
Both items are part of Starbucks' "Magical Fire Halloween" theme and are available until October. The Mera Meera Frappuccino is priced at 678 yen (US$4.56) for takeout or 690 yen for dine-in, while the Malassada Halloween is available for 324 yen for takeout or 330 yen for dine-in.
