South Korea's new 5G subscribers hit a record high 536,997 in May to push the number of total network users to 6.87 million, about 10 percent of the country's 69.43 million mobile service accounts.
The previous monthly record was 520,478 in March.
It's been just 14 months since the country adopted the ultrahigh-speed 5G telecom service.
The country rolled out the world's first commercial 5G network on April 3, 2019, with SK Telecom Co., KT Corp., and LG Uplus Corp., aggressively promoting the upgraded service.
Other smartphone companies in the country have followed suit in launching 5G-enabled devices.
SK Telecom had 3.11 million 5G customers in May, which make up 45.2 percent of the total.
KT has at 2.08 million, followed by LG Uplus's 1.68 million subscribers.
