Exports of Korean-style corn dogs reached US$45.3 million last year, up 99.5 percent from a year earlier.
According to state-run Korea Agro-Fisheries Trade Corp, sales continue to rise even after it already doubling last year.
South Korea’s corn dog exports stood at a mere $120,000 in 2018, but rapidly rose to $600,000 in 2019, $1.6 million in 2020, and $4.8 million last year.
Corn dogs accounted for 1 percent of South Korea’s total exports in 2017, but it has since jumped to 10.7 percent.
South Korean food producer Pulmuone Co. exported 10 million frozen corn dogs to the U.S. and Japan last year.
Myungrang Hotdogs, a Korean hot dog franchise, currently operates 33 stores in nine countries including the US, Canada, and the Philippines.
