The Kremlin has voiced support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly announced Gaza peace plan, urging its swift implementation as a pathway toward ending the ongoing conflict in the region. Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia “always supports and welcomes any efforts by Trump aimed at ending the tragedy that is currently unfolding,” adding that Moscow hopes the initiative will lead to peace in the Middle East.
The U.S.-brokered plan, endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, aims to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, free hostages, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. However, uncertainty remains over whether Hamas will agree to the proposal.
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin reaffirmed Moscow’s position in a phone call with Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the discussion highlighted “support for any steps that will facilitate an end to the bloodshed.” The ministry expressed optimism that the U.S. initiative could provide the foundation for a sustainable ceasefire and open the way for humanitarian assistance.
Despite its backing of the U.S. plan, Moscow stressed its long-standing commitment to a two-state solution. The ministry reiterated that peace in the Middle East must be anchored in the “creation of an independent State of Palestine coexisting in peace and harmony with Israel.”
Russia has frequently criticized Israel’s military operations in Gaza over the past two years, aligning itself more closely with Iran, Israel’s regional rival. Nonetheless, the Kremlin maintains that ending violence and reaching a political settlement through diplomacy remains its ultimate goal.
By supporting the Gaza peace plan while underscoring the necessity of Palestinian statehood, Russia signals its intent to play a mediating role in resolving one of the world’s most enduring conflicts.
