Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are currently on a four-day tour of Australia, their first visit to the country since 2018. During a stop at the Western Bulldogs Australian rules football club in Melbourne, Harry delivered an emotional speech addressing the challenges of early fatherhood and the importance of mental health support.
Speaking at an event co-hosted by the Movember charity, Harry candidly shared how he initially felt disconnected during Meghan's pregnancies, acknowledging that the experience of creating life belonged uniquely to his wife while he stood by as a witness. He emphasized how therapy helped him confront unresolved personal issues, allowing him to become a better father to their two children, Archie and Lilibet, who remained in the United States during the trip.
The royal couple, who stepped away from their senior working roles within the British royal family in 2020 seeking financial independence and relief from relentless media scrutiny, has garnered a mixed response from Australians. While hundreds of families warmly welcomed them at a Melbourne children's hospital on Tuesday, others have criticized the nature of their visit. Some media outlets questioned their motives, with one prominent opinion piece describing the tour as out of touch with reality.
Adding to the controversy, local reports confirmed that certain policing costs tied to the visit would fall on Australian taxpayers, triggering a public petition that attracted over 45,000 signatures. Unlike their previous royal tour, this trip includes commercial engagements. Meghan is scheduled to host a wellness retreat at a luxury Sydney beachside hotel, featuring yoga, manifestation sessions, and sound healing, with tickets priced from A$2,699 per person.
Despite the divided public opinion, Harry and Meghan continue to use their platform to advocate for mental health awareness, veterans' issues, and community well-being throughout the visit.
