Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and U.S. President Donald Trump were caught on a live microphone in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, discussing a potential meeting between Prabowo and Trump’s son, Eric Trump. The brief exchange took place after Trump addressed a Gaza-focused summit attended by world leaders, following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in the region.
In the recorded conversation, Prabowo mentioned a region that was “not safe, security-wise,” before asking Trump, “Can I meet Eric?” Trump responded, “I’ll have Eric call. Should I do that? He’s such a good boy. I’ll have Eric call.” Prabowo replied, “We’ll look for a better place,” to which Trump repeated, “I’ll have Eric call you.” Prabowo then clarified, “Eric or Don Jr.” The two seemed unaware their microphones were still on during the private chat.
Neither the White House nor the Indonesian Embassy in Washington has commented on the exchange. It remains unclear whether the conversation referred to business matters involving the Trump Organization, which Eric and Donald Trump Jr. currently oversee as executive vice presidents. The company operates luxury properties worldwide, including a golf club near Jakarta and a planned resort in Bali, Indonesia.
The incident has fueled speculation about possible connections between Indonesia’s leadership and Trump’s family business interests, particularly given the Trump Organization’s ongoing expansion in Southeast Asia. However, no evidence has surfaced to suggest that the conversation involved any formal business dealings.
The viral off-mic moment underscores the continued global attention surrounding the Trump family’s business and political engagements, especially as Trump remains a central figure in international and domestic political discussions.
