‘Power Rangers’ original Blue Ranger is not happy with the new Zordon casting and calls Bryan Cranston a homophobe for his allegedly anti-gay comments in a past interview. Meanwhile, Cranston revealed that the reboot is much different from the original television series.
According to Game N Guide, David Yost expressed his disappointment at Cranston’s casting as Zordon in the new film. Yost, who played Blue Ranger Billy Cranston in the original television series ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ in the 90s, posted on Twitter that he was displeased that a homophobe was cast in the new film.
Yost slammed Cranston for his seemingly homophobic comments against Blue Ranger years ago. According to Cosmic Book News, Cranston spoke with IGN about working in the original series as a voice actor. He also went to say that Blue Ranger’s name Billy Cranston was taken after his own but joked that it was a problem since Billy was the “fey” one in the group.
His comments may have been a touchy subject for Yost since the latter took to social media to call Cranston’s comments “not cool” after equating “fey” with “gay”. Apparently, Yost was bullied on the set of the original television series for being openly gay in real life. Blue Ranger will be portrayed by newcomer RJ Cyler and will retain the name Billy Cranston.
Meanwhile, Cranston revealed that the cinematic reboot will be different from the 1990s television series. According to Fuse.tv, the 60-year old Oscar-nominee said, “This is as different a reimagining as the ‘Batman’ television series as it became the ‘Batman’ movie series. You can’t compare those two, and nor can you compare this movie version of the ‘Power Rangers’ to that television series."
He is set to play the wise Zordon, a galactic sage responsible for the creation of the Power Rangers. He is depicted as a disembodied head projected as a hologram in the Rangers’ command center. He directs all their missions in the fight of good against evil.
Cranston teased, "It's motion capture, and it's a lot of CGI-work… The tenant of that storyline is that this a real person who is trapped in this etherworld, and it becomes this in-the-wall so to speak of [the command center]… He still has a heart and mind, but an agenda that he's got to get these five Power Rangers to defend the earth or else everyone they know will be killed."
‘Power Rangers’ is an action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Dean Israelite. It scheduled to be released on March 24, 2017 and is produced by Lionsgate, Saban Brands and Saban Entertainment. It is intended as a cinematic reboot of the original live-action children’s television show that premiered on Fox Kids on August 1993.
