‘Poldark’ season 2’s episode 1 will follow Ross as he fights off George in court after he is arrested for plunder and murder. Aidan Turner, who plays lead protagonist Ross Poldark, revealed that he sustained injuries while filming season 2.
BBC’s lengthy synopsis for the incoming season’s premiere episode teased multiple developments for the characters of the British drama television series based on the novels of Winston Graham.
The synopsis posted on Carter Matt opened with, “George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) is building his case against Ross (Aidan Turner) so Pascoe forces Ross to prepare a will in case the worst happens – while Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) visits their neighbour Ray Penvenen (John Nettles) to gain an ally.”
In season 1’s finale, George shuts down Ross’s smelting company after he outbids the latter for available copper. George then celebrates his personal victory by buying a ship. However, his ship is eventually wrecked off the coast of Ross’s land and is descended upon by ravenous mineworkers who plunder its cargo.
Ross proceeds to rescue the surviving passengers of the wreck and brings them to his home. Unfortunately, George’s cousin Matthew dies in the wreck and could no longer be saved. Shortly afterwards, Ross is arrested for murder and wrecking leaving Demelza distressed.
In the season 2 premiere, it seems that Ross will be shutting down offers of reconciliation, specifically with George and Francis (Kyle Soller). The episode synopsis ended with, “Francis, consumed with guilt for betraying Ross, tells George what he really thinks of him before making his way into Dwight’s lodgings and attempting to kill himself. George offers to stand up for Ross in court if he will accept his friendship, but Ross refuses.”
Meanwhile, the Telegraph reported that Turner missed grave injuries on-set while filming season 2. Turner revealed that was hurt while filming a scene off the coast of the Cornwall after a freak wave slammed on to the boat he was on.
The 33-year old Irish actor recalled, "We were filming me lifting Demelza out of a boat in the actual sea when this huge wave picked up the boat and slammed it into my head. I dropped her in the water - not very Ross Poldar… And nobody was coming to see if I'm OK. I was the man injured...”
He continued, "One of the underwater cameramen got cracked as well and he was concussed… These waves, you wouldn't think there's anything to them, but once you get out there you're at the mercy of Mother Nature and she doesn't care how well the previous season rated."
‘Poldark’ season 2’s episode 1, directed by Will Sinclair, is scheduled to premiere on BBC One on September 4, 2016. The new season will follow Ross Poldark as he faces capital crimes while he and his wife Demelza are still grieving the death of their daughter, Julia.
