A well-known leaker in the tech community reported that Google is launching a new phone in June. While the device has yet to be specified, there are several signs that point to the imminent announcement of the Pixel 5a.
Why Google is likely launching Pixel 5a in June
Jon Prosser, who has shared reliable information about Pixel phone announcements last year, is back at leaking information about upcoming Google products. He recently tweeted that a “new Google” phone is scheduled to launch on June 11. While the release date is very specific, Prosser noted, “Not sure exactly which one it is just yet.”

Many tech fans are expecting it to be the Pixel 5a and they have good reasons to believe so. It would not be the first time Google launches the mid-range Pixel first in the year before unveiling its next flagship within the fall season.
It should also be noted that several Pixel 5a leaks have already made it into the wild, and they come from other reliable sources as well. Just last month, long-time popular leaker OnLeaks shared a detailed photo and video render of the supposed Pixel 5a.
Back in January, a set of live photos allegedly showing a prototype of Pixel 5a has also been posted online. Any avid tech fans know that when an unannounced device keeps appearing in the rumor mill, it usually is a hint that its launch would follow soon.
Other Pixel 5 phones anticipated to launch this year
On the other hand, it would not hurt to wait for a few more leaks and information to absolutely expect the announcement of Pixel 5a in June. Aside from the next mid-range device, Google is also rumored to be developing other smartphone products, perhaps the most surprising is a reported foldable Pixel arriving this year.
While there are few to zero details about the Pixel 6, it is very likely in the pipeline as well. While Pixel flagships are commonly announced in fall, it would not be entirely surprising to see Google announce a change in its calendar of events in 2021 just like it did last year because of the pandemic.
