‘Pitch Perfect 3’ is set to be directed by Trish Sie of ‘Step Up’ fame. Sie replace Elizabeth Banks as director after Banks exited the role for personal reasons.
According to the A.V. Club, Grammy award-winning choreographer and director Trish Sie will be taking on the directorial duties for the upcoming film ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ after Elizabeth Bank’s exit due to personal reasons. Sie is best known for directing music videos for the alternative rock band Ok Go as well as directing the 2014 dance film ‘Step Up: All In’.
Banks announced the news through Twitter account on September 2. She posted a photograph of herself with Sie, which was captioned, “#PitchPerfect has a new leader - so excited @bigbadtrish is directing #PP3!”
According to The Movie Network, Banks was originally slated to direct the third installment in the popular musical comedy series ‘Pitch Perfect’ but had to drop the role admitting that the film’s production schedule would conflict with her own. Banks also revealed that she prioritized her duties as a parent enough to refuse the directorial chair.
Banks directed and co-produced the preceding film, which earned fairly positive reviews but overall commercial success. According to Box Office Mojo, the second film received $287.51 million worldwide on a production budget of $29 million. Although she will not be directing the third installment, she is set to return as Gail Abernathy-McKadden-Feinberger, a capella competition commentator, and will continue to serve as producer.
Although plot details for the follow-up remain scarce, returning cast members include Anna Kendrick as Becky, Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy, Brittany Snow as Chloe, Alexis Knapp as Stacie, and Hailee Steinfeld as Emily.
‘Pitch Perfect 3’ is an upcoming musical comedy film scheduled to be released on December 22, 2017 in the United States. It is written by Kay Cannon and produced under Gold Circle Films and Universal Pictures.
