The upcoming season of Starz’ time-travel historical drama television series based on the book series authored by Diana Gabaldon is set to follow Claire and Jamie as they reunite after being apart for decades.
During an interview with Vulture, lead actress Caitriona Balfe teased that her character’s reunion with Sam Heughan’s will not be without the series’ signature steamy intimate scenes. She said during an interview at the 12th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards, “Do you think that older people can’t have sex?”
She continued, “I think if anything, when Jamie and Claire get together again, their love is timeless and who they are inside is timeless.” The 37-year old Irish actress and model plays lead protagonist Claire Beauchamp Randall/Fraser.
The series will pick up in a time-jump after Claire and Jamie have led individual lives following their separation in the previous season. Season 3 will be based on Gabaldon’s third novel in the series, titled “Voyager.” According to the Scottish Sun, the new season will feature Claire traveling back in time to the year 1765 to reunite with the love of her life after 20 years.
Balfe explained, “It was an interesting challenge to play older… That was the fun part about this season: to sort of take that and try to see what 20 years of life does to a person… In terms of the sex, I think old people have good sex too, last I heard!”
‘Outlander’ season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Starz on September 2017. The British-American television series was developed by Ronald D. Moore and first premiered on August 2014. It follows a married World War II nurse, who finds herself transported back in time to Scotland in the year 1743, where she meets a highland warrior and becomes caught in the middle of the historical Jacobite uprisings.
