“NCIS” Season 16 has fans worried that the show may be running out of steam due to the recent departure of a lot of its original cast. A lot of energy has been put into assuring fans that cast replacements such as Diona Reasonover will be bringing the show a much-needed push in terms of creative plot.
Other assurances that will supposedly keep fans anticipating “NCIS” season 16's upcoming episodes include a love team development involving Wilmer Valderrama's Nick Torres and Emily Wickersham's Eleanor Bishop, and the obvious excitement of the manhunt for Director Leon Vance's (Rocky Carroll) kidnapper. But “NCIS's” main character, Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon), may have more stories for fans in the show's upcoming season.
Fans may already know the tragedy of Gibbs' backstory concerning his first wife, Shannon (Darby Stanchfield), and his daughter, Kelly Gibbs. Leroy Gibbs has even reconciled with his now-deceased father, Jackson Gibbs, on-screen. But the stories that Gibbs' life can potentially create for the series go beyond his relationships with his family. The show's creators could potentially write stories for “NCIS” season 16 that reference Gibbs' early days, before becoming an NCIS special agent.
Leroy Gibbs's backstory has been explored from time to time and may have the most impressive fictional resume amongst the current “NCIS” cast. Gibbs enlisted in the Marine Corps in his youth, was a scout sniper, and did tours of duty in Panama and the first Persian Gulf War during Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Storm, respectively. It is not an impossibility that Leroy Gibbs's past may still have unfinished business with his military and special operation days.
If Maria Bello's Jack Sloane has her ghosts to contend with during her tour in Afghanistan which have significantly affected the current stories of “NCIS” season 16, Leroy Gibbs's past may have their own stories which will affect the future of the series.
Fans looking forward to “NCIS” season 16's new plotline can catch the show's premiere episode, scheduled to air on Sept. 25.
