Israeli airstrikes struck two Hamas-led police checkpoints in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza, killing at least six Palestinians, including a young girl, according to local health officials. Three police officers and three civilians were among the dead, with four others reported wounded in the attacks.

The Israeli military had not released any official statement regarding the strikes at the time of reporting. These incidents represent just a fraction of the broader violence that has continued to unfold across the Gaza Strip in spite of a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States that took effect in November — now over five months ago.

Since that ceasefire was established, Israeli military operations have claimed the lives of more than 680 Palestinians in Gaza, according to local health authorities. The death toll across the entire conflict, which began in October 2023, has now surpassed 72,000 people, making it one of the deadliest modern conflicts in the Middle East.

The situation has been further complicated by Israel simultaneously engaging in military operations against Iran alongside the United States, as well as launching a renewed ground campaign against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon. Since the Iran conflict escalated approximately one month ago, health officials in Gaza report that at least 50 additional Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces.

The persistence of deadly strikes amid an active ceasefire raises serious concerns about the agreement's durability and the humanitarian crisis deepening across Gaza. International observers and aid organizations continue to monitor the escalating violence, urging all parties to honor the terms of the truce and prioritize civilian protection throughout the region.
