'NCIS' Season 16 Air Date, Spoilers: Here's What Fans Can Expect When New Installment Airs

With “NCIS” about to celebrate its 16th year on air with season 16, fans are right to be excited about how the show will continue to evolve when the latest episode airs during the fall of this year.

Considering where season 15's finale cliffhanger left Maria Bello's Jack Sloane and the rest of the pursuing NCIS team, expect season 16 to start a bit closer in timeline to the whole mess that Hakim Bawali leaves behind along with the uncertainty of Director Vance's fate in his hands. The team will have to resolve the fact that a high-level NCIS member has just been captured by an international terrorist, and that's not even counting how they're going to be preparing after the beating they got in the last episode.

Fans will definitely get to see more of Diona Reasonover's Kasie Hines in action. As the team's newest forensic psychologist, Katie is sure to provide the much-needed context for the crimes the team will encounter throughout each episode. We'll also get to see if Hines will have that same Abby Sciuto charm packaged in a Kasie Hines flavor.

While Hines may take on a more high-profile role as Sciuto's replacement, don't forget the occasional “Ducky” sighting for season 16. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, played by David McCallum, is still very much part of the team, albeit in a smaller capacity nowadays due to McCallum's family commitments. Still, we'll probably see him helping out Hines from time to time just like his tandem with Sciuto in past seasons.

To add to the show's potential longevity, the fact that “NCIS” season 16 will be a full 24-episode run means we may be expecting the team to receive back up. This means new series regulars at best, or new recurring cast members with the potential to be series regulars in the future.

Speaking of the future, fans can also expect a potential lead that will secure “NCIS” season 17. Even with the high-stakes jumpoff point of season 15's finale, the Bawali arc could potentially end mid-season, with another special case taking its place over the course of season 16's episodes.

It would seem “NCIS” season 16 will be providing fans with new questions to ask just as much as it will close the books with answers that season 15 left. “NCIS” season 16 will premiere on Sept. 25.
