Migrant crisis reveals cracks in European Unity

European Union interior minsters held a summit yesterday to solve migrant crisis before their leaders meet over the same today, however that meeting shattered without any common ground. Instead forceful quota system was chosen by majority votes.

Four countries, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia opposed the votes. Slovak Prime Minister went as far as saying after the vote - as long as he is Prime Minister his country won't abide by forceful quota system.

This result was a slap in the face of European Union that historically has worked through consensus. Countries chose to stick to their narrow national interests without addressing or even considering the problem as pan European.

European Union was united when they chose to back the toppling of Saddam Hussain in Iraq, led by United States. Silent backing by almost all nations were there when Muammar Gadhafi was toppled in Libya. European Union clearly backed the rebels who want to topple Assad in Syria.

Whether they accept it or not. European Union is very much responsible for creation of Islamic State and death of thousands of innocents across Middle East. There was no Islamic State ravaging the innocents while the so called tyrants (called by West) were there in Middle East.

But they clearly not seen this coming - wave of migrants hitting European borders in hope of better life, for some to escape death.

European leaders, might have thought, they could escape any consequences for toppling so called (called by West) tyrants of Middle East.

Like it or not Europe just can't escape this crisis......not this time around. Countries like Hungary may choose to pass laws which enables police to use rubber bullets, water cannons to prevent the migrants from crossing into their countries seeking asylums and show how some can stick to narrow national politics and religion and act similar to the Nazis in World War II.

European countries can choose to take responsibility for their parts played in the crisis and show humanitarian faces like Germany and come to a solution to tackle this mass migration or choose the way of Victor Orban of Hungary using water Cannons and rubber bullets showing the true colors of European unity and humanitarian values.

One might point that European Union has addressed issues to tackle 120,000 migrants but that number doesn't mean much when migrants are expected to reach close to a million by next year.

The image is of Alyan Kurdi, a 3 year old Syrian boy, who drowned along with his brother and mother while attempting to escape death and poverty by reaching European countries.

This saddening picture impels us to urge European countries to show their humanitarian side and not to wash the hands off the matter in the name of nationality and religion.
