‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ is scheduled to resume production in February 2017. Production for the third film in director Wes Ball’s cinematic trilogy based on James Dashner’s bestselling young adult science-fiction novels was halted temporarily following lead actor Dylan O’Brien’s accident on the filming set.
According to /Film, production for the third installment in the ‘The Maze Runner’ cinematic series is set to resume on February 2017. It was shut down temporarily and was expected to resume in May 9 after O’Brien had a chance to recuperate following a freak accident on the filming set on March.
However, production was pushed back again to give O’Brien time to heal. The film was originally set for a February 17, 2017 release but was pushed back to January 12, 2018.
O’Brien, who plays lead protagonist Thomas, was left seriously injured after a stunt went wrong. It was reported by Deadline that O’Brien suffered injuries to his face either on his cheekbone or orbital socket.
He was first introduced as Thomas in the first live-action adaptation of James Dashner’s ‘The Maze Runner’ novels. The first film, entitled ‘The Maze Runner’, was released in September 2014 and received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. It was deemed a box office success after earning $348.32 million worldwide on a production budget of $34 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
O’Brien reprised his role in the sequel 2015 ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’, which also received mixed reviews but financial success. The second installment earned $312.32 million worldwide on a budget of $61 million.
The 25-year old American actor and musician is also well-known for his work on other television and film projects including the MTV television series ‘Teen Wolf’. He is set to star in the main role of Caleb Holloway in Peter Berg’s upcoming biographical thriller-drama film ‘Deepwater Horizon’.
‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ is an upcoming action-thriller and science-fiction film directed by Wes Ball and written for the big screen by T.S. Nowlin. It stars O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Rosa Salazar, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Barry Pepper, Ki Hong Lee, and Dexter Darden.
The film is produced by Gotham Group, Temple Hill Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox Film Corporation.
