It appears that a live-action series about Marvel’s “Runaways” has been greenlighted.
Hulu, the American online streaming service, has ordered a full season of “Runaways.” Den of Geek said the show will be a teen-focused series by Marvel Entertainment and ABC Signature, with Channel 4 co-financing the TV project, suggesting that the show will also be released in the UK.
The announcement came with a cast photo featuring the stars of the series, including actors Rhenzy Feliz as Alex Wilder, deemed as “the loud-and-proud nerd,” Lyrica Okano as Nico Minoru, the Goth Wiccan, Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean, the model-perfect teen who is longing to break free, Ariela Barer as Gert Yorkes, the purple-haired “riot grrrl”, Gregg Sulkin as Chase Stein, the lacrosse jock with the brains of an engineer, and Allegra Acosta as Molly Hernandez, who is the overly positive youngest member of the group, CNET said.
Deadline was the first who reported the news, saying that the show will be helmed by “Gossip Girl” showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The show is to be based on the comics created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, which documents six teenagers with diverse backgrounds and cannot get along with each other. However, the six will be forced to get along with each other as they will go against with a common foe: their own parents.
“Runaways” joins Hulu’s growing programming, which already boast of critically-acclaimed content, including “The Handmaid’s Tale,” a dystopian thriller. Hulu also ordered a full season for the show’s second installment.
