‘Man of Steel 2’ is officially back in active development at Warner Bros. It is reportedly the studio’s “top priority”.
According to The Wrap, the sequel to Zack Snyder’s 2013 action-adventure and fantasy film featuring Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman is back in full active development at Warner Bros. Its predecessor was intended as the first installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and introduced Henry Cavill as the titular caped superhero.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and fans, it was deemed a box office success. According to The Numbers, the first film earned $667.99 million worldwide on a production budget of $225 million. It ranked at number 5 for the top grossing films of 2013 and was a fitting launch for DCEU.
Snyder’s next film in the DCEU, ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, picked up where ‘Man of Steel’ left off and introduced Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman and Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman into the franchise.
Despite a strong debut last March 2016, the film experienced a phenomenal drop in sales by its second weekend in theaters. Although it earned $872.7 million worldwide against a budget of $250 million, it was still called a box office disappointment and was heavily panned by critics.
According to Blastr, ‘Man of Steel 2’ is yet to receive an official release date but an insider revealed that Warner Bros. considered the sequel as the studio’s “top priority”. Although Warner Bros. is yet to comment on the new development, the upcoming film may secure one of the two mystery DC film slots allotted in the schedule of releases – specifically on October 5, 2018 or November 1, 2019.
‘Man of Steel 2’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film currently in active development at Warner Bros. It is the sequel to Snyder’s 2013 release that starred Henry Cavill as Clark Kent a.k.a. Kal-El a.k.a. Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.
Its predecessor was produced by DC Entertainment, Legendary Pictures and Syncopy Inc. and was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It joins a roster of other upcoming DCEU films including Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman’, Snyder’s ‘Justice League’, Rick Famuyiwa’s ‘The Flash’, and James Wan’s ‘Aquaman’.
