Apple does not release a refreshed MacBook Pro every year, but when it does they introduce an all-new feature making its new laptops worth the wait. For 2019, Apple is rumored to come up with a new MacBook Pro design and a bigger screen variant.
The Cupertino, California-based tech giant is now expected to release a 16- to 16.5-inch MacBook Pro in 2019. The speculations started from reports of reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors). Given his track record of correctly predicting upcoming Apple products, there is a huge chance for fans to really see a bigger MacBook Pro this year.
MacBook Pro is currently available in 13- and 15-inch variants, but if the 16-inch laptop comes out in 2019 it would not be the first time Apple releases a laptop with a bigger screen. There used to be a 17-inch MacBook Pro until Apple ordered to stop its production in 2012 along with the launch of its first 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
There has not been a report claiming that Apple will have all three MacBook Pro models (13-inch, 15-inch, and 16-inch) available in 2019. Kuo’s forecast also does not mention how the rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro will affect the production of the 13- and 15-inch laptops in 2019. Some Apple fans speculated that, aside from weak sales, the 17-inch laptop was discontinued because it practically competes with the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac.
Meanwhile, based on the same analyst, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is unlikely getting discontinued in 2019. Apple is actually predicted to beef up the 13-inch laptop lineup by introducing a variant with 32GB RAM, which doubles the current maximum RAM in stores, along with the all-new laptop design.
The release date of the all-new MacBook Pro could be announced within late 2019. In the past couple of years, Apple has been putting out specs upgrades in summer. However, the latest MacBook Pro refreshed lineup was unveiled in fall 2016 and it is also a likely schedule for this year.
