‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ cast Vinnie Jones alongside Taron Egerton and Mark Strong. He is reunited with director Matthew Vaugh, who he worked with on past films. He confirmed his involvement on social media.
According to Collider, Jones has recently joined the new cast of the ‘Kingsman’ in a yet unidentified role. He reunited with director Matthew Vaughn, who he worked with on several full-feature films including two Guy Ritchie films ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’.
Jones confirmed his involvement by posting two Twitter videos on set following an earlier Twitter announcement for which fans were skeptical. He also posted more behind-the-scenes photographs to prove his point. One featured him in full costume and bearing the English flag on his shoes and another one was a photograph with Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, who joined the new cast as the latest villainess Poppy. It was speculated that his new character would either be a Kingsman or an antagonist himself.
The 51-year old British actor and former professional footballer catapulted into stardom after portraying Big Chris in 1998’s ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’. He is often typecast into violent thug roles for his fiery demeanor and intimidating height. He also appeared on films such as ‘Gone In 60 Seconds’, ‘Swordfish’, ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’, ‘Kill The Irishman’, and the lighter comedy ‘EuroTrip’.
He joins an ensemble cast that includes returning stars Taron Egerton and Mark Strong, who play Eggsy Unwin and Merlin respectively. According to Comingsoon.net, other members of the cast include Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, Jeff Bridges, and Sir Elton John. Colin Firth is reportedly returning as Harry Hart but it is unclear how his character would fit into the sequel especially since Harry met his demise in the first film.
‘Kingsman 2’, officially titled, ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ is an upcoming action-adventure and comedy film directed, co-written and co-produced by Matthew Vaughn. Adam Bohling and David Reid are also producing. It is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017.
The film’s predecessor, ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, was considered a critical and financial success. It earned $414.35 million worldwide against a production budget of $81 million. It became Vaughn’s most commercially successful film to date.
