Singer Kelly Clarkson is telling her fans that their focus should be on the peaceful protests and not on the looting that have happened in the wake of the death of black American George Floyd.

In a series of tweets, Clarkson said the protests are more important and should not be overshadowed by the looting and rioting that have also happened alongside the protests.

She said that the looting is done by "selfish idiots" who are just contributing to the problem.

In another tweet, she talked about currently being in Los Angeles where it was chaotic, sirens going off, and curfews put in place because of the looting. She described the looters as not caring for any lives, but their own and are taking advantage of the protests.

The singer, however, has deleted her earlier tweets and, in a new one, stated that her earlier words were twisted.

She clarified that people misunderstood her last tweet, that all she was saying was that they focus on what is important. She said that black lives matter, and the looters are taking advantage of the protests pertaining to it.

Clarkson added that she is used to having her words twisted, but she is not letting it go down this time because there is an important issue at hand.

The nationwide protests are in response to the outrage that was brought about by the death of Floyd.

Last May 25, 2020, Floyd was reported to have used a counterfeit bill in buying cigarettes at a corner store. Police arrived and immediately arrested him.

The footage, however, showed that the arrest was not peaceful as Floyd can be seen lying on his stomach on the ground with a white police officer, identified as Derek Chauvin, pressing his knee to the back of Floyd’s neck.

Floyd asked him to stop as he could not breathe, but Chauvin never let go, and his colleagues also did not do anything.

Floyd lost consciousness and was brought to the hospital, wherein he later died of his injury. All police officers involved have now been sacked and are facing charges with Chauvin being charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
