“Rick and Morty” Season 4 is slated for a late 2019 release and fans are grumbling at the huge delay. However, since Cartoon Network has ordered 70 more episodes, that disappointment has somewhat been staved off.

So what are the reasons for this huge gap between seasonal releases? Writer and producer Ryan Ridley said that it takes a long time to write and animate the adult animated science fiction sitcom. What’s more, Ridley revealed that their team hasn’t even begun the writing process for “Rick and Morty” Season 4.

While this may furrow some brows and produce a few mutterings, writing for the show is extremely difficult given the quality of humor and storyline it shells out. The animated comedy series has been hailed as one of the smartest shows to ever grace television and “Rick and Morty” Season 4 is expected to maintain that same level of quality. It’s so well-written that even Elon Musk became a huge fan of the franchise.

There’s also the fact that the showrunners sometimes implement a method of creativity that is quite inefficient, Digital Spy reported. One instance is when creator and voice actor Justin Roiland applied a method acting where he got drunk filming a particular episode. It was quite hilarious to witness the happenings behind the scenes and it also highlights one of the reasons why it takes so long to release a season. Will Roiland be implementing the same method acting in “Rick and Morty” Season 4?

Given that the show is already delayed as it is, it’ll be hysterical if Roiland does it again. Other voice actors are expected to return for “Rick and Morty” Season 4, as well as guest actors for particular episodes. Nathan Fillion, Susan Sarandon, Christian Slater, Lance Reddick, and Tony Hale have been guests of the popular series in the past.

The showrunners have yet to announce who will be the guest actors for “Rick and Morty” Season 4 since, as mentioned earlier, writing hasn’t even been begun. But co-creator Dan Harmon said he learned a lot from his mistakes in season 3 and will surely avoid them during the production of the next installment.

Harmon also said that he’s planning to include 14 episodes in “Rick and Morty” Season 4, which will be a welcome incentive for the long wait. However, he did add that fans should lower their expectation on this regard as season 3 was also slated for 14 episodes but ultimately aired only 10.
