‘Justice League’ star Henry Cavill’s fitness regime for his role as Superman has recently been revealed. Meanwhile, filmmaker and comic book aficionado Kevin Smith expressed his enthusiasm over possible changes made for DCEU for the upcoming film.
According to an article on Foods 4 Better Health, Cavill’s intense physical training for his role as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman on the DC Extended Universe of films includes CrossFit-style timed exercises. Cavill shared various photographs of himself in social media undergoing strength training to achieve his superhero physique.
One of the images posted on Instagram featured the 33-year old actor pulling what looked to be a large rope attached to a weight of some kind. It was captioned, “1st week of training done. 7 days, 9 workouts and a whole lot of food! #Superman #justiceleague #supermantraining @gritandteeth”
His fitness regime with trainer Michael Blevins includes Plyometrics, Olympic lifting and gymnastics. It was reported that he was tasked at completing as many sets of CrossFit-style exercises in a five-minute period. He is also asked to follow a strict 5,000 calories-a-day diet, which includes a lot of proteins and some carbohydrates.
Cavill was first introduced as Clark Kent in 2013’s ‘Man of Steel’. He then reprised his role in the sequel ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, which panned with critics and was deemed a box office disappointment despite its strong debut on March 2016.
According to The Numbers, Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman v Superman’ earned $330.36 million at the domestic box office and $537.8 million at the international box office. It earned a total of $868.16 million worldwide against a production budget of $250 million but was still considered a financial failure for Warner Bros.
Despite the negative reviews, the film earned Cavill and his co-stars several nominations including a nomination for Cavill at the 2016 Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category.
Meanwhile, Kevin Smith expressed his enthusiasm over the next planned releases in the DCEU. According to Comicbook.com, the comic book writer and filmmaker admitted that he thinks Warner Bros. and DC Comics will be adapting changes for their future films based on feedback from fans and critics for preceding releases.
Smith said, “It looks like (Warner Bros. and DC Comics) heard that loud and clear and everything that was missing or perceived to be missing from Batman v Superman seems like it’s in full display on Justice League, so I’m on board… I was already on board, but I’m very happy to see that they’re taking that direction.”
‘Justice League’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio. It is intended as the fifth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017.
The film is produced by DC Comics, DC Entertainment, RatPac-Dune Entertainment LLC, Lensberg Productions and Warner Bros.
