‘Jurassic World 2’ is set to feature the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as the lead protagonists. Despite speculations of original cast member Jeff Goldblum’s return, he admitted that he will not be appearing in the sequel of the newly rebooted ‘Jurassic Park’ series.
According to Loaded, Goldblum appeared on The Graham Norton Show to promote his upcoming film ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’. While on the show, he admitted that he will not be reprising his character in the upcoming installment in the popular ‘Jurassic World’ series.
When asked about his potential involvement, Goldblum replied, “Yes. I was available. But had a big satisfying meal with being in two of them.” He added, “If I never did any more, I’d be entirely nourished and happy and fulfilled from having done these. They’re doing spectacularly well without me.”
He revealed that he was not approached to reprise his role as Ian Malcolm, a mathematician and chaos theorist who was one of the main protagonists in the first two films ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’ both directed by Steven Spielberg.
The franchise was rebooted with the ‘Jurassic World’ series in 2015. The first film, directed by Colin Trevorrow, became the highest-grossing film in the franchise and prompted the creation of a sequel. ‘Jurassic World’ starred Chris Pratt and Pryce Dallas Howard as the main protagonists with B.D. Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu featured as the only character from the original series in the 1990s.
According to Box Office Mojo, the first film had a production budget of $150 million and earned $208.8 million on its opening weekend alone. It went on to gross $652.3 million in the domestic sales and $1.02 billion in the international market. It earned a total of $1.67 billion worldwide.
‘Jurassic World 2’ is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film directed by J.A. Bayona. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 22, 2018 in the United States. Dallas-Howard and Pratt are set to reprise their roles as Claire Dearing and Owen Grady, respectively.
